After a long and cold winter
it is time to look
forward to another fantastic summer at the Dunany Country
Club. The Board of
Directors has been working hard all winter preparing for
the 2013 golf and
social season. And, after an amazing summer of 90th
anniversary
celebrations, we’ve got a lot to live up to!
We
would like
to welcome two new members to the Board. Caroline Roy will
be the new Ladies
President. She has been a
big part of the
ladies branch and we look forward very much to working
with her. Marina
Chambers also joins us as the director of the Junior
Program, taking over for
Lynn Palmer-Lowe. Marina has been an active volunteer with
the juniors over the
past few years and will be a perfect fit for our
ever-growing junior program. I
would like to thank Lynn who held two positions on the
board last year. She
will now continue as the Vice President.
I
would like to
thank Kathy Wright, the outgoing Ladies President, for all
her hard work on the
board and with the Ladies division of the club. Kathy has
always been a very
committed member of the DCC community and will be missed
on the Board. After
many years in charge of “the House”, John Wilson has
announced that this will
be his last summer and we are currently looking for his
replacement. If you are
interested in helping out with the club and being on the
board, please let us
know. Finally, John Rivière
will be stepping down
from the board this year and we would like to thank him
for his input and
generous support of the club.
The
90th
anniversary celebrations were a huge success on both the
social and financial
fronts and we had a better year than expected last year.
Please see Mike Fehr’s
report for more specifics. As mentioned in last year’s letter, we will be raising fees by $25 this year
in order to try and
reduce our annual deficit. The board would like to once
again thank Diana Minty
for all her hard work and the support she provides in the
running of all
aspects of the club. Many thanks as well to Dave Armitage
and his team who did
an outstanding job at keeping the course at its best
through a very dry season
last summer.
Finally, I feel it is important to acknowledge the
passing of some members of the DCC community. I am sad to
announce the passing of Charlotte Clifford, Gord Ritchie
& Karen Gordon Lampl. I have asked Ross Leslie to say
a few words and share some stories about each of these
members at this year’s AGM as they were all a special part
of the DCC community and should be honored as such.
