A hearty welcome to all Dunany folks! Spring is just around the corner and thoughts of golf are on everyone's mind. As we look forward to another summer of great parties, dinners and tournaments we should keep in mind a couple of important dates and jot them into our calendars.
Our first major event of the season is the Annual General Meeting, June 20th at 3pm. This follows the Opening Scramble and is the first tournament and bar of the year. It’s a great chance to get the pulse of the club, maybe give some input and give us all a chance to say hi to our neighbors and catch-up with local news.
Our first major social event is the Opening Dinner and Dance on Saturday, June 27th at 6pm. Following the Raguin Leslie Mixed Field Day, we will enjoy what is becoming a traditional and delicious BBQ dinner of roast beef cooked to perfection by Jimmy Armstrong and Dave Glionna. Complete with dancing under the stars, this is a memorable evening and really sets the tone for the summer.
A day not to be missed is Family Fun Day, Sunday July 5th at 3pm on the eighth hole. This revitalized day is a hoot for the whole family. With hot dogs, hamburgers, games, sports and lots of prizes for everyone this is as fun as it gets.
Another terrific evening for the family is the now famous Talent Night on Sunday, July 26th at 6pm, where stars are born. Show off your talents and have a delicious and homemade dinner. Hosted by Chico Kiteala, this Dunany tradition is sure to delight the youngest to the oldest.
On Saturday August 1, at 3pm, we will hold our most eagerly anticipated social event of year, the Ladies Cocktail Party. After enjoying the one o’clock Dan Main Shield tournament, please retire to the clubhouse for some delicacies prepared and presented by the Ladies Committee and have a look around at some of the previous years’ quilts as you load up on tickets for this year's Ladies Quilt Raffle. So, come one, come all and maybe this year will be the year you take home the quilt!
Come and support our ladies in their quest for our new Club Champions during the weekend of August 15 and 16th. The bar opens at noon. Come on down and cheer.
The Men's Club Championship Dinner on Saturday August 29, 6pm follows the final round of the Championship and is sure to be an extravagant and highly spirited affair. This year will be extra special as Barb Armstrong has offered her services as hostess and that means put on your party suits and let the fun begin.
September 5 finds summer drawing to a close and the Parkes Culross Mixed Field Day, followed by our Prize giving and Corn boil BBQ at 5pm. Unlimited kettle-cooked corn plus delicious hamburgers and hot dogs will be served promptly and without delay to the entire family. Not to mention handing out the hard-won silverware. A great day for the whole family.
Finally, the October 10th Thanksgiving weekend finds us up to all kinds of crazy antics as we "compete" in the Annual Car Rally and Dinner. A great way to have fun in the fall and to raise money for a good cause.
I'd like to thank all the club volunteers who helped out last year by pitching in and working hard behind the bar, washing dishes, preparing and serving food and by doing all the jobs that just have to get done. I'd also like to thank Ev Wood who once again kept the bar amply stocked and the drinks icy cold. Thanks to Diana Minty who always manages to smile when chatting with me. Thanks to everybody and let's continue to volunteer and help keep our club running the way we want it to. Volunteer sign-up forms are included in this newsletter or drop by the Starter Shack to see which project is right for you.
Finally, I'd like to thank Marie, David, Stephanie and Davey Armitage, whose contributions to our club are beyond any expectations and who have helped me immeasurably with great advice, helping hands and patience.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone on the course and wish everyone a great summer season.
