A Packed Club House on Dunany Film Night Featuring John N. Smith
Our sincerest thanks to Canadian Filmmaker John N. Smith, and to his family, who came out last Thursday. It was wonderful to hear John share stories about his incredible film career. He is a true Canadian icon and we are so proud to call him one of Dunany’s own.
A big thank you to Mitch Azaria and Andrea Minty for organizing, and to Chris Wynn and Chrys Tindale for hosting and filming. We can’t wait to see what you have in store for next year!
A collection of John’s films are available to be borrowed from the Starter Shack. Additionally, some of Cynthia Scott’s films are available, including her Academy Award winning Flamenco at 5:15.

Night Golf Enthusiasts Teed-Off as the sun set on August 2nd!
A big thank you to Shelley Cruise and volunteers for organizing this event with an added dimension to the game of golf – playing at night!

Mary Sutherland Wins the Dunany Quilt Raffle!
Congratulations to Mary Sutherland on winning this year’s quilt titled “The Wave” designed by Stephanie Logothetis to represent the wave of friendship and love we feel for Dunany. Thank you to everyone who took part in the quilt production!
Congratulations also goes to Maureen Dubiel and all the volunteers who organized a highlight of the summer in the Ladies Cocktail Party. A flagship event on the fixture card – thank you to everyone who volunteered, made hors d’oeuvres, donated prizes and came out to take part.

Match & Handicap
As I write this note, the Senior Men's Intersectional Tournament will be wrapping up. Thanks to Rod Armstrong for coordinating this event and here's wishing the best for our Dunany Seniors. The results will be posted in next weeks’ bulletin. A special thanks to Trudy and Jeff Adams and all the parents of our Juniors who graciously moved the start time of Junior Golf to 7:45 a.m. allowing us to hold this tournament. That was a tough early start.
Our Junior Club Championship took place August 1st and 2nd, the course was packed with kids having all kinds of fun. Congratulations to all our new Champions and a huge thanks to Trudy and Jeff Adams for, once again, organizing an incredible Junior Club Championship.
A reminder that the Ladies Club Championship begins this Friday August 9 at 8 a.m. and carries though until Sunday August 11. Come out and cheer on our ladies and be sure to attend the reception and bar at 12 p.m. on Sunday while watching the groups come in. Good luck to all our competitors and a special thanks to Barb Campbell, Ladies Captain, for organizing and overseeing this event.
The Match and Handicap Committee is working hard to update our local rules. There will be some changes but nothing that our membership can't handle. We'll have more news after the Club Championships. Our local rules can be found on the back of our score card. Please take a moment to refresh your memory and give them a quick read.
Congratulations to the winners of the Dan Main shield played last weekend: Jeff Best and Lois Finch with a net 60.
Gentlemen play your rounds for the Men's Best Ball and Markham Cup. The final rounds must be played by August 25.
Please bring all trophies to the Starter Shack in order that we can get them to the engravers by August 25th.

Third place - Bonnie Curtin, Joanne Poole, Don Sutherland and Andy Therrien.
Of note: Pierre Demers dazzled the field and especially Junior Demers (visiting from Vancouver) by scoring an eagle 3 on Hole #7!
Ladies Club Championship
Please sign up in the Starter Shack by noon on Thursday, August 8th as the classes will be decided as of that time. Those of you who are on the cusp of Class B or C should monitor this carefully as it will decide to whether you play 9 or 18 holes. We will also try to contact you Thursday night to inform you of your class placement.
The championship starts this Friday, August 9th with C's and D's playing 9 holes Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Friday the C’s and D’s will start at 08:30. A's and B's play 18 holes on Saturday, August 10th and Sunday, August 11th. It is recommended to put your own unique mark on your ball so you can identify it.
If you are planning to use a caddy in the Club Championship, please advise them in advance a caddy’s presence should never hinder or slow down playing time, nor disturb the other players. For our competition, I would prefer caddies to restrict coaching to an absolute minimum and not be on the green when other players are putting, as sometimes they stand in a place that distracts other players.

At the Ladies’ Cocktail party last Saturday our Club President, Michael Fehr spoke to members about the DCC Heritage Club House renovation project, noting the Club House is a tremendous asset that we all own and the importance of maintaining and improving it. He announced that so far we have raised over $187,000 towards our goal and urged all members to get behind the campaign.
“This cocktail party and quilt raffle is a perfect example of everything the club represents - volunteers coming together to raise money for the club. It's a tradition, deeply rooted in history, and contributing to our future. The Heritage Project is the same. It's the preservation of everything we love about the club house, the tradition & the charm - while ensuring that it functions well - not only for our time honoured events but also - all the new events that have evolved in recent years.”

Stan Roy, President of the Dunany Community Association also spoke about the importance of the Club House and its role in bringing the community together at the AGM on Sunday and Louis Finch, DCA Director, spoke about all the activities that the DCA sponsors that are held in the Club House.
Lake parties are planned this Friday, August 9 at the Swaine cottage on Boyd lake hosted by Pierre Demers and Bonnie and Heather Swaine. The Clear Lake ‘and friends’ including Lake Louisa event will be on Sunday, August 19 hosted by Peter and Bonnie Curtain. Cathy Ashley will be hosting the Black Lake event and the date will be after the wonderful Glee Club Pub evening on Friday, August 16.
Some people have asked questions regarding their gift. We have a very detailed “Q&A” document on our DCC website. A quick re-cap: the cost of the renovation is approximately $450,000. Funding will be $75,000 from DCC cash reserves, $25,000 from our tree harvesting project and $50,000 from a member assessment. All members will be assessed $100 per year for 3 years. Our fundraising campaign is to raise $300,000 from the community. We are well on our way!!!!
