Updated Fixture Card
We invite you to keep informed with the online version of the Fixture Card (calendar of events) which is updated throughout summer. New information is underlined.
The Ladies Invitational was a Blooming Success
It would not be an invitational without blistering sun and heat! Everyone was treated to a lovely breakfast of fruit, cheeses, muffins and more. Golf was a Florida/Texas Scramble which helped even the playing field and sped up play.
The dress theme "Power of Flowers" did not disappoint with an array of great ideas and costumes. The team of Underhill sisters took top honours with handmade crocheted and sewn accessories - most impressive! The room décor and tables were bursting with beautiful flowers, artwork, and golf shoe center pieces. Barb Therrien went home with a lovely floral watercolor painting generously donated by Annabelle Wood.
On behalf of Co-Conveners, Caroline Roy and Sheryl Caron and members of Curran Lake: A BIG THANK YOU to all those who organized or helped with set up, decorating, registration, shuttling teams to their respective holes, dressing Blossom, making punch, tending bar, donating breakfast foods, door prizes, mini floral watercolors, our students Jessica and Jared, and our cleanup crew. We now pass the torch to Clear Lake, and look forward to 2020!
Winning team: Trudy Adams, Trish Dundass, Ingrid Gratz and Helen Stein with a score of 41.

Match & Handicap
We are now our the busiest period of the summer!
The course continues to improve with more refinements on the way. Our crack Greens Team continues to impress. Thanks guys. I’ll be painting new red stakes this week so please inform yourselves of your different options when you find yourself in trouble: https://www.randa.org/en/rog/2019/rules/the-rules-of-golf/rule-17
Uncut areas of our fairways i.e. the muck on #3 and the hill on #9, can be considered ground under repair. A free drop no closer to the pin is accepted.
We have added a drop zone to the 8th hole just in front of the bridge. This will allow an easier and less penalised option for golfers attempting to get over the creek and Eco zone. Please use this option after hitting into the Eco zone (between the Green and Yellow stakes)
We still have some 2019 Rules of Golf books available for sale in the shack.
The 2019 Men’s Invitational sold out event organized by Peter Wright for the umpteenth year in a row, was a huge success. Peter and his team have got it down to a science. Thanks for giving us a fun and filling day. The weather you ordered was perfect.
With so many tournaments to play this week; I’ve decided to extend the Men’s Best Ball First Round Deadline until the morning of Saturday July 20th. This should take some pressure off having to play 3-5 rounds on the weekend. The guys that have played their matches on time this year will be rewarded next year.
The Markham first round deadline is unchanged and continues to be this Wednesday July 17. Get your results in by the end of the day.
Men’s Mustache Cup 2019 Results:
The two day, net tournament was held last weekend, thanks to everyone who competed.
Winner: Dave Lavoie with the low net of 73
Runner up: Mitch Azaria with a 74.
A reminder that practicing on the course is prohibited i.e. using multiple balls. Your scores cannot be accepted for handicaps and you may be holding up players. Please be respectful of faster groups behind you and allow them to play through.
Due to the high amount of traffic on the course it may be that groups of 1 or 2 players be grouped together in order to reduce playing times. This will be the starters call. Please respect their decision.
Tees 8 and 9 will be closed Saturday July 20th at 12pm to allow for Musicfest 2019.
Tees 8 and 9 will be closed Friday July 26th to allow for our annual Junior Day.
Course will be closed on Saturday July 27th at 2:30 pm to allow for a shotgun start of the Mike Roy Memorial. Tees should reopen by 4pm at the starters discretion.
Big shout outs and praise go to our Starter Team and Cat Spaulding for keeping me on track and almost on time, most of the time. Thanks.
Chrys Tindale, Club Captain
A Message from the Greens
There has been some discussion lately about the rough around the course. Many of you are probably unaware that our large rough mower is under repair at the moment and the crew is doing their best with the smaller mower that we purchased last year. Parts have been ordered and we will get the large mower back out on the course as soon as possible. Thank-you for your understanding and patience.
Alan Morton, Greens Chairman
Next week, July 24, we migrate from the barrios of Miami to the kitchens of Dunany. Pack your Glocks back in their shoulder holsters and whip out your spatulas and aprons – we’re slicing, hooking and cooking ‘til “You can Stick a Fork in me . . . I’m Done!’
Wednesday, July 31, is 'Combined Mens' and Ladies' Day' and traditionally we break all the provincial gambling laws by anteing up before teeing off with those Debonair Dunany Dudes. Don't forget to bring your Twoonie.
Barb Campbell, Ladies Captain

Junior Golf Field Day was held on Tuesday, July 16 under sunny blue skies. Familiar favorites in a fun format - skins game, longest drive, most accurate drive, closest to the pin, putting, chipping and sandblasting contests followed by a BBQ. Many thanks to all the parents who volunteered.
Family Sports Day on Friday, July 26 2:30 p.m. (NEW DATE!)
Suitable for ages 4-16 and we love grandparent volunteers too! Come out for an afternoon of good old-fashioned fun! Teams participate in relays, potato sack races, water balloon toss, tug-of-war and so much more. Hosted by Warren Neill and family again this year. A BBQ follows all the games and the bar will be open. Families, friends and guests are welcome - the more, the merrier. Meet at the 9th hole of the golf course.
We need confirmation of attendance for BBQ (hamburgers & hotdogs, salads, ice cream) so we can plan food purchases accordingly. RSVP Trudy Adams or sign-up/call the Starter Shack 450-562-4885.
* Reminder the 8th & 9th holes are closed to golfers as of 2 p.m. on July 26th to accommodate Family sports Day*
The talent show follows a yummy lasagna supper. Children of all ages are welcome to sing, dance, perform a skit, read a poem, play music or show their talent in any way! (P.S. we know our judges love team efforts so grab some friends and plan a rehearsal!) Performers can sign-up as they arrive at the clubhouse for dinner. Everyone is welcome to attend dinner at a modest cost, payable at the door. Donations of home-made lasagna are appreciated - if you would like to contribute, please call Sharon Leslie at 450-562-4088

Everybody Loves Chico’s Talent Night!
Sunday July 28th at 6pm
This is our classic "Children's Talent Night" where all children up to 18 years old can show their talents! In past years’ children have played the flute, piano, guitar and French horn! They have recited their ABC's or poetry, told jokes, sang songs, performed skits and dances, and even performed a magic show and a puppet show. Acts are individual or sometimes in groups. What will your child or grandchild do this year? Please encourage them to participate! All are welcome! The dinner begins at 6 p.m. and acts will register when they arrive.
*If you would like to bake a lasagna (meat or vegetarian) as a donation for the dinner, please email Sharon Leslie at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 450-562-4088 and specify the type of lasagna that you’ll be making.
“Everybody, yes everybody, loves Talent Night”
Dunany Film Night – Thursday August 1st
John N Smith in conversation with Chris Wynn
Following John N Smith’s success with his seminal film, The Boys of St. Vincent, Hollywood took notice. In a very short time, John found himself working in a world of unlimited budgets and directing stars like Michelle Pfeiffer, Mary Louise Parker and Vince Vaughn. Please join Dunany’s own John Smith for an insightful evening as he takes us behind the scenes of his important Canadian documentaries and Hollywood films. During intermission, have a look at the Photo Album (picture above) that Michelle Pfeiffer made for John as a memento of their time working together on the film, Dangerous Minds.
Place: Dunany Country Club
Date: Thursday August 1st.
Cocktails at 7pm, Evening begins at 7:30.
Members Free, Non- Members $5.

Heritage Clubhouse Renovation Project
Your Board is pleased to inform you that we are continuing to receive pledges in support of this important project for the future of the DCC. This is a special community…and every member matters!
We have developed a “tiered” pledge system. Pledges can be made over 1, 2 or 3 years. Larger ones can be made over 5 years. Pledges can also be made by a ‘family’.
We also wish to assure you that all donations are strictly confidential. This is a prime concern of the Board and the Fundraising committee. Privacy of donors is critical. No one will know who donated and how much they gave.
A reminder to residents of Curran Lake and “No Lake” please RSVP to Scott and Dianne Burks’ generous invitation to celebrate the fundraising Kick-Off BBQ at their home this Friday July 19th.
We are looking forward to sharing the evening’s results and attending other possible initiatives on other Dunany Lakes in the coming weeks.
We are on our way! Together we are helping to sustain our special community at Dunany for generations to come.
For more information please contact Lynn Palmer at email@example.com
If you have Dunany stories and photos to share, please send them to Cindy Aikman at firstname.lastname@example.org
Have a wonderful week!
