News from Junior Program

Lessons for junior members started on Monday, June 24th. We’re so happy to have Marc Barbeau back at DCC for his 13th season offering golf instruction to the juniors (and ladies & men too!). Marc has recently made a donation to DCC. Look for the storage shed which is located on the 2nd hole (behind 1st green). It contains balls and equipment used for lessons, all from Marc. Please thank him for his generosity and commitment to our program.

#WeTheNorth Raptors fever is coming to Dunany! It was announced at the Annual General Meeting that Bill Moore & family have generously donated two removable basketball nets and offered to set up a basketball court in the upper parking lot.

Please check the newsletter each week and the fixture card regularly for updates. There are over 40 events for juniors and families. Many activities start in the next two weeks as we welcome back families for the summer season. Follow our facebook page as well

Honours Report Hilights from the AGM on June 22

We remembered the passing of a number of former members over the past year: Brian Bouskill, John Brydon, Warren Gamble, Bruce Murdoch, Jim Peters and Marcel Raymond.   To this list, we would also add the name of Ev Wood Sr who passed away last October. Each in his own way made a contribution to the Club and they will be missed

Two of our trophies are currently in the shop for much-needed repairs as part of our on-going review of these treasures of the Club’s history.  Instructions will be given to this year’s winners on the care of trophies that they are fortunate to win and should any damage happen to a trophy, please do not undertake any repairs on your own but simply let us know. Lastly, We are looking at displaying some of the trophies over the summer especially on the day(s) of the actual tournament so you may be contacted by the undersigned to wrest your trophy away from you for a day or two.

One of the more important roles of the Honours Committee Chair is to make recommendations on how best to recognize the contributions that individuals or families have made to the success of the Club.

It was my honour to make two recommendations to underline the contribution that the late Ross Leslie made to the Dunany Country Club over many, many years. The first was to add his name posthumously to our Honour Roll. Ross was involved in many aspects of the Club from helping with the Junior Program, to Club Captain, President and Honours Chair to name a few.  At one point, in 2011, it appears he was simultaneously Past President, Honours Chair and Club Captain!.  By any standard, Ross qualified for this recognition years ago but perhaps because of his role as Honours Chair, he may have been a little reticent to put his own name forward.

Ross was best known as our resident historian and his spin on the history of our trophies and their recipients over the years at the Club’s prize-giving both educated and entertained the audience and kept Dunany history alive. The second recommendation for his exceptional contribution to the Club, was the naming of this this event as the the Ross E. Leslie Memorial Prize-giving. Just as Ross helped keep our Club’s history alive, this, too, will help keep his memory alive.

I am pleased to report that the Board and membership in attendance at the AGM supported both recommendations enthusiastically.

-Duncan Campbell, Honours Chair

Wishing you all a wonderful week!
