June 2021 Newsletter
Welcome to the 2021 golf season in Dunany!
An early and unusually warmer spring allowed us to open the course a week earlier than the traditional May long weekend tee-off. It was clear than many of us took advantage of this and enjoyed getting back on the links following a winter of COVID-19 protocols. The greens are in great shape, and while the remainder of the course is understandably not yet in mid-summer condition, I know Alan, Chris and Rhys are doing their very best to get it there. Thank you very much gentlemen.
On the subject of COVID-19 protocols, they will be very much the same as last summer. The use of the tee time reservation system and the need for social distancing will continue for the 2021 season. That also goes for no ball washers, no rakes, no water stations, no starter shack access and the use of cup lifters on the flags to retrieve your last successful putt. Your COVID committee will continue to monitor the guidelines and protocols as provided by the government and Golf Canada/Quebec and we will communicate any changes as they occur.
Work began a few weeks ago on certain holes to make the paths safer for the use of golf carts. There’s been a strong interest in this pilot project and I look forward to seeing many members enjoy a round who would otherwise not be able to do so. Thanks to Michael Fehr and his team for making this happen.
The Clubhouse renovation is advancing extraordinarily well and the place is looking quite impressive. An ongoing and tremendous effort by project leader Lynn Palmer and her team of tireless volunteers. We are all thankful for your dedication.
I would like to welcome back Nicole Adams and Juliette Hay as our starters for another season. Their knowledge and experience will be a great asset to the Club. I also welcome Tate Wightman as our back-up starter. Tate is keen to learn and take on the responsibilities of the position, and I’m sure he will do extremely well. Please be sure to say hello to them before heading to the first tee.
Please note in your agenda the Annual General Meeting which will take place on Saturday June 19th at 10:00 am. Details on how to join our second annual, and hopefully last virtual or ZOOM AGM will be provided ahead of the meeting. The following members have agreed to allow their names to stand in nomination for the Board of Directors of the Dunany Country Club in 2021.
All have agreed to act in the following chairs if elected.
President: Pierre Demers
Past-President: Michael Fehr
Vice-President: Paul Wilson
Treasurer: Alex Sandahl
Secretary: Andrea Minty
House Committee: Tom Lowe
Junior Committee: Trudy Adams
Greens Committee: Alan Morton
Ladies Committee: Rebekah Thompson
Communications Committee: Cindy Aikman
Social Committee: Dianne Burk
Member at Large: Ben Painchaud
Captain & Match Committee: Tracy Wightman
Environment Committee: Cathy Leslie
As you all know, there is a direct correlation between our Club’s success and its member’s contributions as volunteers. So here’s a special tip of the hat to those retiring board members who have given so much of their time and effort:
Ingrid Gratz joined the Board as treasurer 5 years ago and always provided us with wisdom and well prepared detailed budgets. Her valuable advice was given with the goal of ensuring the Club was kept in a sound financial position. I appreciated her help and insight.
Chrys Tindale came on as Club Captain 4 years ago, but I also remember the time he was involved as Social Director. His implication with the Club over a great many years is to be commended. I don’t know that I’ve met anyone who loves Dunany and its golf course more than Chrys does, and this was reflected through his devotion to our Club and community.
Kevin Carter joined the Board as social director only last year and was quite keen to tackle that responsibility. Unfortunately the advent of COVID and the uncertainty that came with it put a damper on social events. I nonetheless appreciated his contributions and knowledge of the game during our various board discussions.
On behalf of the entire membership I wish to sincerely thank Ingrid, Chrys and Kevin for their respective contributions and dedication to the DCC.
Lastly, but certainly not the least, it was with regret that I received Catherine (Cat) Spaulding’s resignation as operations manager earlier this year. Cat took on this role with zest and enthusiasm 4 years ago and made the job her own. Whether it was working with the starters, interacting with the Board of Directors or helping our members, she always did so with a cheerfulness and exuberance that so defines her. Thank you Cat for all you’ve done.
For the time being, the operations manager’s responsibilities will be divided between our accountant Stephanie Logothetis and the starters who can be reached at . I can be reached at where I will be happy to help in any way I can.
Please stay safe and I look forward to seeing everyone out on the course,
-Pierre Demers, President DCC
Membre extraordinaire : Ben Painchaud

It was a beautiful blue sky for the DCC Green Day. Many hands make light work! More than 25 volunteers showed up early in the season on May 23rd, to help clear leaves and debris around the starter’s shack, pathways and parking lots and even cut-up the huge birch tree that fell at the 7th tee. Some members have planted flowers and offered to maintain specific locations throughout the season. Our thanks go out to the following:

Duncan & Barbara Campbell
Peggy Carroll (Clubhouse flower boxes)
Lyne Chouinard (1st tee flowers)
Michael Cockhill & Estelle Willard
Jim & Lois Finch (DCC Road sign)
Careen Heggie Latt

Friendly Request - TEE TIMES
When making a tee-time reservation, please list ALL members in the group as well as any guests. The starters can only make adjustments when they are on duty so we are counting on you. We are required by COVID-19 protocol to have a record of all players and we are also conducting analysis on course usage this summer.
Dear fellow members,
First and foremost, I would like to express my thanks to Chris and Rhys for the work that they have accomplished on the course so far this year. It has been a difficult spring from many perspectives and maintaining turf and the rest of the course has been challenging. We usually have 3 full time employees for the busy spring start up and so far we haven’t found that 3rd person. Please bear with us as we do our best until we can find someone to join our team. If you know of someone who is looking for work, please have them contact me by email at .
I played the course this weekend and am very pleased with the overall conditions. I did notice many divots that were not replaced and more ball marks on the greens than I would have liked. Remember, this is your golf course, so please treat it with the respect it deserves.
On behalf of the course crew, I wish you good golf and birdies galore!
-Alan Morton, DCC Greens Director

Past President's Report on Membership & Drivable Electric Carts
The 2 carts on order should be delivered no later than July 3. In the interim, we are working on securing 2 demo carts for delivery week of June 20. We will continue to post updates on our Golf Carts webpage and with our Starters.
This update is focused on setting expectations for this Start-Up project and to ask for your patience as we roll out the process and work with the Starters to orient them with this new system. We expect to rent the carts using a reservation system linked to the existing tee-time reservation app, identify who should have priority to rent the carts, and create a video orientation of the new cart paths/service road network for the safety of our members and preservation of our fairways, etc.
As of now, this is what we know:
Carts paths, course signage, storage and charging stations will be completed and ready for use by June 20.
Process to book the carts using the tee time app is ready and will be open for booking once we have the carts.
Process to prep the carts for daily use is being reviewed with the Starters
Given we have 2 carts & 4 tee times/day, we have a limited capacity of 28 tee times/week, excluding any weather-related cancellations
2 carts will be available for rent each day at 10 a.m. and 10:10 a.m., followed by 2 p.m. and 2:10 p.m., excluding Tuesday mornings, when the tees are closed for the Junior Program. On Tuesdays, the rental schedule will shift ahead by 1 hour to 11 a.m., 11:10 a.m., then 2 p.m. and 2:10 p.m. The Match & Handicap committee has approved electric cart rentals for Men’s Day, Ladies Day and all tournaments, excluding the club championship.
Both carts need to be returned to the Starters no later than 4:30 p.m. so they can be cleaned, charged, parked & stored for the next day.
We’ll post the insurance waiver form on the website, under the membership link. You can print, sign and leave this with the starters for the duration of the golf season.
Cart rental costs, including taxes:
$25.87 for one 9-hole round
$34.49 for one 18-hole round
Pre-paid booklets of 10 (9-hole rounds) for $241.45; coupons limited for use during 2021 season
Pre-paid booklets of 20 (9-hole rounds) for $459.90; coupons limited for use during 2021 season
Stephanie, our accountant, will bill you for each individual rental or for a pre-paid book of rentals
The Membership Committee is creating an initial priority list of rental candidates, based on those who identified themselves in the May cart survey as requiring a cart based on a condition. If you did not indicate requiring a cart based on a condition via the survey, please inform us. This member can bring any member or guest to join them. We will share that priority list of rental members with our starters, who will help us monitor the cart rental reservations process.
Because of the 28 rentals per week capacity, we are asking that members, especially in this priority group, limit their rental reservation to a maximum of 3 rentals every 2 weeks. This policy may change once we have rental data to review later in July.
We would ask that only those members on the priority list make reservations up to 7 days ahead. If you are not on the priority list, you may make a reservation within 48 hours only. Members can check the reservation system to see if rental spots open up for potential next day or same-day reservations or call the starter shack for rental information.
If you have any questions, call the starter shack 450-562-4885 and speak to one of the starters or drop me (Michael Fehr) an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org , or call me at 450-562-2509 (Starter shack Open weekends only until June 26)
Again, here is the link on our website for cart rental updates and our Q&A. DCC Golf Carts
We are looking for 5-10 cart volunteers who can help us with logistics and support for the starters for the first few weeks of this rollout. Let me know if you can lend a hand and be around the starter shack at those pre-assigned times 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., to greet members who may be using the carts for the first time and may have some questions. Drop me a line if you can help us. It would only be for a few minutes around these tee times.
-Mike Fehr, DCC Past President and Membership Director

Ancestral Plant Sale - A Resounding Success!
Angela Macleod and her team organized our tremendously successful plant sale on Saturday, May 29. So many of our community donated their wonderful Ancestral flowers and $3,453.00 was raised to contribute to the DCC Heritage Club House Renovation Project.
A tremendous thank you goes out to Angela and all of her wonderful volunteers.
A special thank you to the members who donated Raffle prizes. A beautiful planted Urn (anonymous), the flower bouquets by Dorothy Rekman and Peggy Carroll and a watercolour painting by Caroline Roy. Congratulations to the lucky winners: Anne Cairns, Lynn Palmer, Kathy Laidley and Dianne Vanstone.
A great day was had by all. A wonderful start to our summer season!
Quilt and Quiltilla
The " We ❤ Love Dunany Fall Colours " quilt is progressing beautifully and I am happy to report that I have received nearly half the completed squares already. It is so gratifying to see the 2021 John Parsons’ creation come to life. There was no shortage of volunteers this year with a little extra time on their hands, and their enthusiasm is so much appreciated. Everyone is encouraged to return their squares as soon as possible so that the work of assembly can begin.
Meanwhile, stay tuned for details in upcoming newsletters for the second annual “Quiltilla” on July 31st. As the pandemic regulations continue somewhat, there will be no Club House cocktail party again this year. However, last year‘s party on our lakes was such a resounding success and we hope for repeat attendance, good weather and awesome fun. Ticket sellers on each lake and start and finish docks will be announced in the newsletters.
- Diane Glionna
Everyone keep healthy and safe as we embark on another glorious summer in Dunany!
